I truly don't know how you have the stomach to persevere in this work.

The devastation wrought by the GOP and aided by inert paperweights like Durbin is mind-bending.

We have people dying of gun violence every 12.5 hours, and Republicans are spending millions trying to restrict trans students' access to bathrooms.

This is still nominally a democracy...just imagine which of Dante's circles of hell we'll descend to if Republicans win at any level in 2024.

The prospect is worth voting en masse for any and every Democrat until voting becomes muscle memory and we can finally begin to address the rampant corruption that brought us to this nightmare.

It has been appalling watching the Democrats pretend that Israel is a saintly enclave raining fire down upon the evil Palestinians, all of whom are obviously Hamas terrorists, even the preemie babies in incubators. Vote Blue No Matter Who is utter BS. The Republicans are bad, but that doesn’t absolve Democrats of having a moral, compassionate compass.

There have been appalling takes on all sides.

Biden and his staff have been careful to clearly delineate between Hamas and the Palestinians.

Those lambasting all Gazans are a very small minority of remarkably uninformed voices on the Left (including a truly unhinged rant by a renowned playwright) and the bulk of the GOP (many of whom do so due to Israel's status in their religious dogma).

Anyone who doesn't believe that Gazans deserve a humanitarian corridor for safety, fuel, water, medicine is lacking in humanity.

I continue to ask why the Arab countries neighboring Gaza fail to open their borders to desperate Palestinians, even on a short-term basis.

The Netanyahu administration is filled with corruption and religious extremists. Hamas' charter is the death of the Jewish state. Innocent Gazans are caught in the middle of a nightmare, as are innocent Israelis who've been through their own hell.

I wish Biden had a magic wand to impose a cease-fire or a 2-state solution. I wish that someone could replace the Netanyahu administration before a catastrophic land incursion. I wish Hamas could be easily eradicated...they've treated their own people with cruelty and disdain.

There are no magic wands.

I can only hope that the intense diplomatic efforts, at the very least, enable a pause for tremendous humanitarian aid to flow, the injured to be treated, the dead to be buried, and the hostages to be rescued.

Those who believe we have the luxury of abandoning democracy to the GOP because they are witnessing mass suffering will bitterly miss our freedoms when they are gone.

I can empathize with innocents on 2 continents caught in wars not of their own making, while desperately trying to maintain our own fraying democracy by supporting the only alternative to a Christian nationalist party.
