Agreed, the Dems are far from perfect. However, I keep coming back to one difference. The Dems still have room for diversity and support of social issues which the GOP absolutely does not. Historically they have defined their conservative nature, in part, as not supporting those very programs that the public wants including Republican voters. Every poll shows that people across the political spectrum want national health care and funding of public education and support for Social Security which in fact workers fund throughout their working years. Here is a piece written by someone who grew up Republican but over the years has made a complete switch. You might find it interesting to read:

This rings similar to AOC's critique of the Dems in NYS.

What is missing here is any discussion on home many Black and Dem voters were illegally removed from the voting polls or how many of the 10's 1000's thrown off illegally by Bush ever regained their vote.

You’re right, those are absolutely factors, absolutely despicable stuff from Republicans. To fix them, Democrats will first have to remake the party by solving so many of these other problems that are in their control.

I’ve been asking, in YouTube, why people voted for DeSantis. Besides getting my head handed to me for various reasons like it’s illegal to ask (no, it’s not), the number one reason (so far) is DeSantis kept the state open during the pandemic. Never mind that thousands more died than should have, and staying open gave the virus a chance to mutate several times.

But after reading Mr. Kennedy’s excellent article, the Dem leaders in Florida have themselves to blame for losing the state.

DeSantis also did his best to hide how many people died. So, staying open didn't appear to have any consequences.
