Welcome to a special Thanksgiving Day edition of Progress Report.
Truth be told, there aren’t any actual news items or reported features in this edition of the newsletter — we’ll wait until this weekend, to give you some information to digest along with your leftovers.
Instead, I’m simply emailing because when I look back on the past year, this community is on the list of things for which I am most thankful. Sure, the birth and health of our first kid is at the top the list, but beyond that, I’m immensely thankful for the trust and support that you’ve given this newsletter in the comments and personal emails, subscriptions and donations.
What began as a little side project at the end of 2017 has become a second full-time job on top of my actual full-time job at More Perfect Union. I’m lucky to have such opportunities, and you have been a crucial part of both making it all possible and fueling our growth.
This is the first year that there has been additional contributors to Progress Report, fulfilling a promise I made to subscribers at the end of 2021. We’ve had a policy expert writing for us on a weekly basis and featured original features from reporters on the ground in a number of different states. Your subscriptions and donations allow us to pay these reporters and activists, so again, I am eternally grateful for your trust and support.
This community also raised money for a lot of winning candidates and grassroots activists that won underdog victories for their communities. Perhaps most remarkably, we’ve raised over $1.5 million for abortion clinics and abortion access funds in the seven months since the Dobbs decision leaked.
The midterm elections were far less disastrous than expected (another thing for which I’m thankful), but the danger we face has hardly been vanquished. Right-wing extremists, greedy corporations, corrupted Democrats — they’re far from done with giving us headaches.
To meet that challenge head-on, we will continue to expand Progress Report, with more contributors covering a variety of different beats, from crucial political battles to policy impacting people in cities and towns nationwide. I’m thankful that your support has gotten us this far and em excited to see what we do together next.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Jordan
Every Democrat I’ll read the article he carried on how and why the Democrats lost Miami Dade county in Florida! Hint: The Republicans Had community offices that not only registered voters, but provider needed services, like driving lessons. If Democrats are the party of the people, why didn’t I think of that first?
